Cancellation
If you need to cancel
Read this before you pay anything. It does not change after your first instalment.
The short version
Your charter contract contains a cancellation schedule. The closer to embarkation you cancel, the less is refundable, and high season is stricter. We cannot change those terms — we are your broker, not the yacht's owner — and we will not tell you we can.
What we do about it
Before you pay a single instalment, we send you that schedule as dated deadlines and real amounts in your own currency. Not percentages. Not a clause reference. The actual dates, and what you would lose on each side of them.
If we have not sent you that, ask us for it and do not pay until you have it.
We do this because the most common way a charter goes wrong is not a bad boat. It is a guest who signed a contract containing a cancellation ladder nobody ever made real to them, and who found out what it meant at the worst possible moment.
What is not in the ladder
- Your APA comes back. Anything the captain has not spent is returned. The schedule covers the charter fee only.
- Your security deposit comes back, less any damage or unpaid onboard spending.
If we cancel — or the owner does
Different terms, generally in your favour, and they are in the contract too. If the owner cannot deliver the yacht, ask us and we will walk you through exactly what you are owed.
What we will actually do for you
If you need to cancel, we will ask the operator to re-let the dates and pass on anything they agree to. Sometimes that recovers a real part of it. We will not promise you an outcome we do not control, and you should be wary of any broker who does.
The honest recommendation
Buy charter cancellation insurance, and buy it early. Bought at the time of signature it covers most of what the schedule would otherwise cost you. We do not sell it, we do not take a commission on it, and we recommend it anyway.
